Adam Jones Highlights Sixth Edition of PBL Roundup Show
The PBL Roundup Show commenced at a new start time of 5 pm MDT for the first time, and featured a couple esteemed guests joining hosts Thom Brennaman, Joe List, and Bill Bavasi. The show also featured game previews from the Syracuse University interns as well as another analytics segment, with the theme being the arts and science of a trade.
List started off by breaking the news that he’s already getting released by the Glacier Range Riders after they signed him to a contract this past week. List is scheduled to make a trip out to Whitefish, MT and be a part of a team in some capacity during the Range Riders’ game with the Missoula Paddleheads.
Syracuse interns Hayden Wasserman and Mathias Altman-Kurosaki presented the analytics segment, in which they talked about four of the most lopsided trades in MLB history. The two broke down the trades that sent Nolan Ryan to the Angels, Lou Brock to the Cardinals, Frank Robinson to the Orioles, and Adam Jones to the Orioles.
The aforementioned Adam Jones joined the show and was able to speak with Bavasi, the General Manager who traded him back in 2008. Jones talked about his time with the Orioles, and how Shohei Ohtani has changed the game as we know it. The five-time All-Star also spoke on his experiences going to the Midsummer Classic, and what it was like switching from being a shortstop to playing center field.
Ogden Raptors general manager Trever Wilson joined the show from the O Town Beach Club inside Lindquist Field. Wilson explained what inspired the bar to open and how he grew up around baseball in Ogden, and about the Utah brothels and how Al Capone used to spend time in Ogden.
Bavasi was able to talk with former MLB pitcher Les Lancaster, who currently serves as Ogden’s pitching coach. Lancaster spoke about his time pitching in the majors and how the current game differentiates from what he was brought up around. He also discussed his experiences working as a coach in the modern game.
The league director of baseball operations Aaron Bond spoke with former Ogden Raptor Fox Semones about his baseball career. Semones grabbed scouts’ attention when he ran a 6.3-second 60-yard dash at the PBL’s tryout camp in Tucson, AZ, which led to him getting drafted by the Raptors with eighth pick of the PBL Draft. Semones has since signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks and is playing with their High-A affiliate in Oregon. He spoke with Bond about how he ended up playing professional baseball, his go-to concession choice at games, and his experience at the PBL tryout camp.
The final segment of the show was the newest segment of “Who’s on Durst?”. Will Durst spoke about why he doesn’t love certain baseball terminology and gave his take how it should change. After Durst’s segment Thom Brennaman end the show by giving a tremendous farewell and his dearest salute to our Nation going into the 4th of July Weekend.
