North Batter: Lamar Sparks, OF, Missoula PaddleHeads

Lamar Sparks takes home North Batter of the Week honors for the second time in three works after he tore the cover off the ball in six games against Great Falls. The 23-year-old went 12-for-24 with three homers (two of which were grand slams) and 13 RBIs as the Paddleheads clinched the North Division’s first-half title. Sparks was particularly dominant in the series finale, going 5-for-7 with two homers and eight RBIs, finishing a triple shy of the cycle as Missoula routed the Voyagers, 21-8. He now ranks fourth in the league with a .411 batting average, third in the league with 76 hits, and sixth in RBIs with 49.

 

North Pitcher: Kelvan Pilot, Billings Mustangs

Kelvan Pilot pitched well both as a starter and a reliever during the Mustangs’ series with the Range Riders. On Wednesday, he started and pitched six innings, allowing just three hits and one unearned run with two walks and eight strikeouts. In the series finale on Sunday, Pilot tossed a scoreless inning and earned his first save of the year, securing an 8-5 win. The 28-year-old righty has now only allowed one earned run in his last 15 ⅔ innings, and hasn’t allowed one in his last 12 ⅓ innings.

 

South Batter: Jesus Valdez, IF, Ogden Raptors

Jesus Valdez wins his second South Batter of the Week award as helped the Raptors win four of six against the Rocky Mountain Vibes and claim the South Division first-half title. Valdez went 12-for-26 with one homer, five doubles, a triple, and 10 RBIs, collecting a hit in every game during the week. His .378 batting average is tied for ninth-best in the PBL, and he ranks fifth with 53 RBIs, ninth in hits with 68, and is tied for fifth with nine homers.

 

South Pitcher: Jimmy Dobrash, Grand Junction Rockies

Jimmy Dobrash carved up the Owlz on Thursday, leading the Rockies to a 3-0 victory. He went 8 ⅓ innings, allowing no runs and five hits while walking three and striking out nine. Dobrash’s outing is the longest registered by a PBL pitcher this season. The 25-year-old righty is now tied for sixth in the PBL with 43 strikeouts and has thrown the seventh-most innings.
