Broussard Walks-Off Mustangs for Glacier’s Third Straight

Flathead Valley, MT. – The Glacier Range Riders (16-27) ripped off a third-straight win Wednesday night when they toppled the Billings Mustangs (22-20) by a score of 3-2 after a walk-off error off the bat of Brandt Broussard scored John Pardue and won the game for Glacier.

Runs in the first two innings for Billings put Glacier down early, but the score line straightened out for the hosts once starting pitcher Austin Edwards really started to get in a groove in the third inning. In the bottom of that third, Brian Williams reached base for the first time in his professional career on an error and was eventually brought home on an RBI groundout from Ben McConnell. Logan Walters took over for Edwards after five innings and pitched three scoreless innings that would be crucial in the comeback win.

In the bottom of the eighth, it was Ryan Cash that found a way aboard with an infield single and was pushed to third on a single from Sam Linscott. Brody Wofford easily carried a ball to the deep outfield for a long enough carry to score Cash on the sac fly.

When Austin Steinfort came on to pitch in the ninth, the defense decided it was time to really flex their muscles. First, second baseman Ryan Cash was called upon to make a ludicrous dive to his left, knock down a hard-hit ground ball, and throw to first for out number one…he did just that. Then, after a single from Billings, first baseman Brody Wofford had a ball hit his way that he fielded and fired to second for the force, Broussard tapped the bag and launched a pinpoint throw to Steinfort covering first who made a massive stretch to nab the ball just in time to complete the 3-6-1 double play.

Broussard was not done, however. The inning opened with Livingston Morris blooping a hit into the shallow outfield and using some lax fielding by Billings to scamper into second for a double. The Mustangs then intentionally walked Justin Mazzone, before Brenton Davis tapped a picture-perfect bunt down the line to load the bases with no outs. It was then Broussard who stepped up, with no outs, and the bases loaded. The Range Rider since day one pounded a hard hit grounder to the Billings third baseman who bobbled the ball and couldn't get a throw off to home, allowing pinch runner John Pardue to score the winning run.

The Range Riders take a 3-0 series lead with win, but there is still four more games to be played between Glacier and Billings in this seven-game stretch, including Thursday, July 14th, at 7:05 PM. Get your tickets at GoRangeRiders.com.
