Great Falls Victorious in Game 1 at Oakland

Last night was the first time in history that the Great Falls Voyagers have faced off against the brand new Oakland Ballers, and they improved their all-time record against Oakland to 1-0.

Jason Pineda is typically a reliever for the Voyagers, but after some injury complications to typical Tuesday starter AJ Fritz, Pineda had to come in for an emergency start, and he absolutely delivered!

Pineda has proven to be the best distance arm out of the pen in the first half of the season for the Voyagers, and the 8-year professional player did no different last night. Pineda gave 6 solid innings of work, only giving up one earned run on 4 hits, striking out 5.

Oscar Serratos Jr opened up the scoring in the top of the sfirst come with an RBI single, but then an untimely error by the third baseman in the bottom of the frame kept the inning alive for Oakland, which resulted in three runs being scored in the frame.

Freddy Rojas Jr tied things back up in the top of the 4th when he hit a two run blast out to left center field, bringing in Jack Lynch as well. It was his 4th long ball of the season.

Oakland took the lead back in the bottom of the 4th, but it wouldn't be for long, as the Voyager's offense went on a late game run, scoring runs in innings 5-8. Solo homer from Xane Washington in the 5th tied it up, then some good baserunning and contact hitting drove in runs courtesy of Serratos Jr, Putnam, Yanez, and Backstrom.

It was a mixed bag for Oakland starter Justin Kleinsorge, who went 5 innings, giving up 5 earned runs on 9 hits.

Pineda is credited the victory, Torrealba nearly gets a three-inning save, but can't get the final out, Dayan Reinoso came in to get the final out and second save on the season.
