Glacier Falls 90 Feet Short in Narrow Loss

BILLINGS, MT. – The Glacier Range Riders (10-4) got the tying run to third base in the top of the ninth but couldn't get him any further in a thin 7-6 loss on the road against the Billings Mustangs (4-12).

Offensively, the Range Riders started hot once again, scoring one in the first off an RBI groundout, two in the second off a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch, and one more in the third thanks to a Ben Fitzgerald solo home run.

Billings caught fire in the middle frames, scoring seven unanswered with two home runs in there. Starter Rob Hamby would pick up the loss, striking out six in his five innings of work, while Conner Housley struck out two, and Joseph Kinsky and Ryan Cloude each pitched scoreless frames.

This Range Rider squad still had fight in them, though, a trait we've come to expect from them in 2023. In the eighth, Crews Taylor singled home Mason Dinesen to make it a two-run game. One inning later, Jackson Raper and Eddie McCabe would lead off the inning with hits, then they got pushed to second and third on a groundout. Matt Clayton would fly out to deep center field to score Raper, but a two-out groundout would end the game before McCabe could get across.

The Range Riders and Mustangs play again Saturday, June 10th, with a first pitch at 6:35 PM at Dehler Park.
