The Voyagers kept their hot streak going last night to open up their July series against the Glacier Range Riders last night, final score 10-5.
The game kicked off with some tremendous defense. Gabe Howell hit a hard liner over to third to leadoff the game, and 3B Oscar Serratos made a tremendous diving grab. It set the tone for a much improved Voyagers defense as of late, and they had yet another error-free game after going so long without one. AJ Fritz made his 4th appearance in the green and red and delivered once again. AJ gave us 7 solid innings, and kept his pitch count under 100 for the day. He gave up three earned runs on 6 hits, with only one walk and 6 K's. Fritz has been stellar and consistent throughout his appearances. One of his biggest strengths early in the season is his ability to remain poised, not letting himself get affected by bad innings. His ERA is currently just a hair over 5, making him 4th best on the team.
Ryan Major and Xane Washington also kept their hot streaks going yesterday. Major opened up the scoring for the good guys in the third inning with a three-run homer to right-center field, his fourth long ball of the season. Washington went 2-4 with 5 RBI's, 4 of which came off of 2 RBI doubles in the 5th and 6th innings. The duo of Major and Washington drove in 9 of the teams 10 runs total.
Relievers Trae Robertson and Braden Forsyth also continued their solid work as of late, working the 8th and 9th innings respectively. Both gave up just one run, and Trae Robertson had an amazing highlight play to get out of a bases loaded situation. Robertson had just been struck in the leg by a 107-MPH comebacker, when just a few pitches later, he saw another comebacker, this timem directed at his head, going 100 MPH. Acting off of pure instinct and immaculate reaction time, Trae reached his glove instantaneously and made an incredible catch.
Forsyth closes the door in a 10-5 Voyagers win. Double header on the 4th starting at 6 PM. Starters for the Voyagers are Danny Galvan and Nate Madej.
