Stout Stymies Hawks, Sixth and Seventh Surge Glacier Past Boise

FLATHEAD VALLEY, MT. – The Glacier Range Riders (29-45, 11-16 second half) utilized seven unanswered runs to surge past the Boise Hawks (23-51, 6-20 second half) in a 7-1 victory on Wednesday night at Flathead Field. Starting pitcher Andrew Stout shoved for six innings and other than a solo home run against him, he was nearly untouchable on the mound.

Raymond Gil got the scoring started on the day with that home run to lead off the second inning. From there, Stout responded with a strikeout on his way to six straight outs and finishing with a run of retiring 15 out of his final 18 batters faced. His final line was six innings pitched, three hits allowed, one walk, one earned run, and four strikeouts.

Glacier secured the victory thanks to four runs in the sixth inning. The big bats were led by Brandt Broussard, Eddie McCabe, Drew Sims, and Ryan Cole, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. The technical game-winning run came from a laced double into the gap from McCabe that pushed the score to 2-1 in favor of the Range Riders.

In the seventh, a big insurance play was made when Brody Wofford ripped a double down the right field line with the bases loaded that allowed all the ducks on the pond to get home and made it 7-1.

Sims, Cole, and Mason Dinesen all had two hits, while McCabe and Dinesen led the way with two runs scored each. Drew Holweger and Nate Thomas each came on to throw 1-2-3 innings during the seventh inning.

Austin Steinfort, in his final appearance before retiring, came on in the ninth and fired a scoreless inning. The final pitch of his career was a strikeout swinging to secure the win.
