Rocky Mountain Sweep Doubleheader
Davis, Ca.— The Rocky Mountain Vibes (2-1) completed a doubleheader sweep as the visitors took the nightcap 7-5 over the Yolo High Wheelers (1-2) Sunday at Dobbins Stadium.
The story in game two was three two-run homers (two in the second inning) by the Vibes. Left fielder Steven Rivas led off with a walk, and the next batter—Rocky Mountain first baseman Dane Tofteland (1)—belted the first of the round-trippers, hitting it to left and making it 2-0. Later in that inning, after a double by second baseman Josh Day, left fielder Stephen Wilmer (1) homered to right, extending the lead to 4-0.
Those runs were allowed by Yolo's JC Ariza (0-1), who made his first pro start. Despite the rough second inning, three of his four innings were perfect, with six strikeouts.
Yolo cut the Rocky Mountain lead to 5-4 heading into the seventh. However, Vibes pinch hitter Mason Sykes (1) clobbered his first pro homer with a runner on, making it 7-4.
The High Wheelers showed resilience, scoring a run in the ninth but ultimately left the bases loaded, unable to complete the comeback.
Highlights for Yolo included RBI doubles by first baseman Sam Kuchinski and center fielder Brayland Skinner. Right fielder Kyle Guerra had two hits and an RBI.
Rocky Mountain starter Danny Nunan (1-0) allowed one run over five innings, while Bryson Spagnuolo (2) saved both games.
Yolo is back in action at home on Tuesday afternoon with a 4:30 first pitch. Right-hander Cameron Repetti (0-0) will be on the hill for the High Wheelers.
