Voyagers Win Second to Last Game of Season
The Great Falls Voyagers won game five last night against the Boise Hawks, in what was their second to last game of the season. Game number 96 starts this morning at 11:30 AM, CJ Czerwinski is the starter for Great Falls.
Jordan Hamburg got his third start in his professional career yesterday and continued his streak of solid outings. Hamburg went 5 innings, only allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts, continuing his impressive streak of K's.
The Voyagers' offense gave Jordan a bunch of run support early in the bottom of the first. The V's batted around the order in the first, driving in five runs. Jeff Nicol had an RBI double that drove in two, Freddy Rojas hit a grounder that drove in one, and Frank Podkul capped it off with his 10th home run of the season, a 2-run shot to left center. Jorgensen would respond in the next frame for Boise with an RBI knock, making the score 5-1 after 2.
Both teams stayed quiet offensively until the 6th inning, when the Hawks started to mount a comeback. Noah Marcelo and Micah Yonamine hit back-to-back home runs, totaling 4 RBIs, tying the game back up at 5.
It didn't take long for the Voyagers to respond offensively, they put up three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, RBI knocks from Xane Washington, Freddy Rojas Jr, and Jack Lynch.
Xane Washington added to his total in the next frame as well. The bases were loaded with one out when Xane stepped into the box, and he cleared the bags with an RBI double in the gap to left-center field. The Voyagers led 11-5 after the 7th.
Boise wasn't going to go without a fight, though. They put up five runs in the top of the 8th, bringing the score to 10-11 Voyagers.
Jeff Nicol made sure to add some insurance in the bottom of the 8th for Great Falls, as he hit his 4th home run in his young season, a two-run home run to far left field. Boise tries to come back in the 9th, but are shut down a couple runs short. Final score of this one was 13-11 Great Falls
