Hot Start Sinks Yolo
Davis, Ca.---The Oakland Ballers (15-11) scored all of their runs through the first four innings as they defeated the Yolo High Wheelers (12-11) 7-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Dobbins Stadium which ended Yolo's season-high four-game winning streak.
Oakland right fielder Austin Davis led the game off with an infield single. That was a springboard for a three-run inning. Left fielder Trevor Halsema had the first run-producing hit with a single to left making it 1-0. Catcher Coleton Horner contributed immediately after Halsema with a two-run double.
That gave the Ballers an early cushion as they added two runs in the second: an RBI single by center fielder Payton Harden scored one, and a wild pitch plated another. The visitors tacked on single runs in the third and fourth.
Ballers starter Christian Cosby (3-1) had plenty of room as he defeated the High Wheelers for the second time. He struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings and issued two runs (both earned). In his two starts against the High Wheelers he's 2-0 with 20 strikeouts.
Dawson Lane (0-2) in defeat for the High Wheelers gave up seven runs (all earned) in 3 1/3 innings without a strikeout. The seven runs issued are the most by a High Wheeler pitcher in one game.
The Yolo run-producing at-bats were an RBI single in the second by right fielder Tanner Smith, and center fielder Brayland Skinner who had an RBI single in the seventh and drove home a run on a groundout in the ninth.
This series is tied at one and Oakland leads the season set 5-3.
Game three is Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Dobbins Stadium. Right-hander Carson Lambert and righty Brandon McPherson are the probables for Oakland and Yolo respectively.
