Big Flies Again an Issue in 12-5 Defeat

By Tyler Petersen

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.  – A leadoff home run set the tone for the Rockies tonight as they took game three of the series 12-5.

It was a big night for Grand Junction shortstop Shawn Ross who had two three-run home runs.

For the sixth game in a row the Vibes have alternates wins and losses in the second half; they are now 4-4 and sit a game and a half behind the first-place Rockies.

Of the offensive bright spots for Rocky Mountain, Ethan Lopez hit his fourth home run of the year, Josh Glenn drove in two on a double, and both Gio Diaz and Cesar Lopez had an RBI.

It was 5-0 Rockies from the get-go in the first and they added another run before the Vibes could respond with a run of their own.

Another five-run inning in the sixth ultimately put the contest to bed.

With 40 games left to go in the first half, four of the five teams in the south are within two games of first.

Again, if the Ogden Raptors were to win the second half, the team with the next best overall record (regardless of division!) would make the playoffs as the wild card team.

With the exception of one series against Billings for Ogden and the current series NoCo has with the Mustangs, all the rest of the Southern schedule for those four teams will be played against each other.

Boise, who is in last place, has all but one remaining series against Northern Division opponents.

Who knows how things will end up in this wild, feral Southern Division.
