Mustangs Tromp Owlz 6-4

The Billings Mustangs emerged triumphant over the Northern Colorado Owlz, with a final score of 6-4. The Mustangs showcased their prowess both at the plate and on the mound, securing a hard-fought victory that had fans on the edge of their seats.

The Mustangs set the tone early, capitalizing on defensive lapses by the Owlz in the first inning. Gabe Wurtz's single to right field brought home Brendan Ryan for the first run of the game. Alejandro Figueredo then grounded out to shortstop, allowing Taylor Lomack to score. John Michael Faile's single to left field extended the lead to 3-0 in favor of the Mustangs.

The Owlz weren't about to back down, as they rallied in the second inning to tie the game at 3-3. Nick Michaels' single to left center brought home Euro Diaz, and Estevan De La O's single to left field added another run. Payton Robertson's single completed the rally, scoring Michaels.

The Mustangs regained the lead in the fourth inning as Taylor Lomack stole second and advanced to third while Brendan Ryan stole third and scored on a throwing error by the Owlz catcher. This gave the Mustangs a 4-3 advantage.

The Owlz, however, weren't ready to surrender. In the seventh inning, Jackson Coutts hit a triple to center field, driving in Henry George and knotting the score at 4-4.

Yet the Mustangs had more in store. In the bottom of the seventh, John Michael Faile unleashed a mighty swing, sending the ball soaring over the right-field fence for a two-run homer. This pivotal moment secured the Mustangs' lead at 6-4.

Chase Wilkerson took the mound for the Mustangs, shutting down the Owlz offense over two innings and claiming the win. Hunter Schilperoort stepped up to the plate in the ninth inning, closing the game with a solid performance to earn the save.

Brandon McPherson tossed five strong innings giving up just three runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts, while Nate Jenkins struck out the side in order in the top of the eighth.
