Ballers Take Series Lead in 15-7 Victory

By Davis Ellington

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.

After conceding 42 runs in the first two games of the series, Oakland got back in the win column tonight with some hot bats of their own in what was a 15-7 Ballers victory.

The Ballers have yet to score fewer than 11 runs in each of the first three games of this series. Tonight's game began with an RBI sacrifice fly from Dondrei Hubbard to start the scoring for Oakland. However, Rocky Mountain would plate a pair in the bottom of the inning with nothing more than a couple of singles and a few well-placed groundouts.

Oakland starter Derrick Cherry would stop the bleeding after the opening frame, only allowed one more run over his remaining four innings of work. His efforts gave his offense an opportunity to rebuild a lead in the early going, and the bats of the Ballers responded by coming alive in the middle innings.

Oakland's offense rattled off nine runs on nine hits from the third to the fifth inning. The Ballers capitalized on free passes from the Rocky Mountain starter Kelsey Ward in the 4th inning with some aggressive base running as they plated four runs in the fourth.

After five frames Oakland led this contest 10-3, and the bullpen of the Ballers was tasked with getting this game across the finish line. Jake Dahle stumbled on the mound, as the Vibes got to him for four runs in his 1.2 innings of work, drawing the game closer at 11-7 after the seventh inning.

The Ballers would put the nail in the coffin with their final offensive chance, scoring four runs in the ninth inning to effectively put the game away. Dondrei Hubbard would pick up his second and third RBIs of the night with a two-run single. He would score on a wild pitch later in the inning before Tyler Lozano cracked an RBI double to finish off the scoring for the Ballers. De Leon, Davis and Burdett would combine to blank the Vibes over the final two innings of this one, sealing the 15-7 victory, and giving Oakland a 2-1 series advantage heading into Friday's action.

Oakland will look to ensure a series split with another win tomorrow in Rocky Mountain, first pitch is again scheduled for 5:35pm tomorrow evening. You can catch the Ballers action live on 860 AM The Answer, or watch them live on Flo Sports.

We are less than a week away from Oakland's home opener on Tuesday June 4th against the Yolo HighWheelers. Tickets for Opening Night have been sold out, but plenty of options remain for the rest of the series Wednesday through Sunday.
