The Voyagers were victorious in game two against Billings despite the weather delay. It was a packed in crowd for Kids Bike Helmet Giveaway Night presented by Brain Injury Alliance of Montana. The series is even at 1-1 after tonight's game.
Danny Galvan faced off against Pat Maybach in what was slated to be a pitchers duel, as both pitchers have been white hot in their last few outings. However, both pitchers struggled a little early; Galvan gave up 2 runs in the first, and the Voyagers responded with a Hernan Yanez RBI single in the bottom of the first.
The score stayed locked up at 2-1 until the bottom of the 4th, when the Voyagers put together a 4-run inning that was kicked off by a Jack Lynch solo home run to right center field. It was a line drive that left his bat going 101 MPH. This was followed up by a Kody Putnam base hit and then an RBI single from Ryan Major. The inning finished up with an RBI triple from Mahki Backstrom, giving Great Falls a 5-2 lead.
The game unfortunately saw a weather delay in the 5th inning due to rain and lightning. This ended Maybach and Galvan's nights early, as the delay went on too long for them to stay warm. However, this allowed reliever and 8-year pro Jason Pineda to step in a little early, and he put on a show in relief of Danny. Pineda went 3 innings, giving up 2 hits and no earned runs. He also had 3 strikeouts to boot. It was a crucial appearance from Pineda, staving off the Mustang's offense and holding the lead for Great Falls.
It was a banner day for left fielder and first-year pro Ryan Major. The California native had a 4-knock day, and also drew a walk, reaching base safely in all 5 plate appearances.
Jose Torrealba then relieved Pineda for the final two innings, and Jose also had a good appearance. He gives up one run on one hit in two innings with three strikeouts. Torrealba was also credited with the save in the 9th. The 'Stangs and the Voyagers battle again tonight at 7:00 PM MT, anticipated starter for Great Falls is Nate Madej, anticipated for Billings is John Esposito.
