Vibes Lose as Raptors Clinch First Half

By Tyler Petersen

OGDEN, Utah – An 11-run sixth inning sunk Rocky Mountain as Ogden completed their first half championship of the Southern Division by the score of 18-3.

Looking through the box score of a blowout can cause some anxiety so let me do the work for you. Here were the highlights for the Vibes in this game:

  • Josh Glenn had arguably his best offensive output of his young professional career, driving in all three of the Rocky Mountain runs in the ballgame.
  • Mike Annone stays hot with two doubles on the night going three for four
  • Pete Bayer pitched a scoreless inning, striking out three batters

That was the extent of the nice notes on the night.

The Raptors had six extra base hits in the game – four doubles and two home runs, a big fly each from Freddy Achecar and Dakota Conners. The Vibes were in reach through five innings behind 7-2, but then the big inning hit a frame later.

With Felipe Rodriguez on the mound the Raptors staged a might assault. After the first three men of the inning reached, a two-run double by Conners was followed up by a two-run single by Andrew Noviello. Another run came in on a wild pitch a few batters later and Pat Adams drove in two with a single. After Nathan Draves replaced Rodriguez, four more came in on a double, a groundout, and a single.

In the top of the eighth there was both lightning and rain looming in the area. The game was called rather than delayed with two outs in the inning. In addition to the score, the situation did not dictate a return to play was necessary considering how long the teams would have to wait out the lightning and the resulting yardwork that would have to be done to the field to be able to continue.

The Raptors are the Southern Division champions in the first half, a title they hold outright with a subsequent loss tonight by the Grand Junction Rockies to the Northern Colorado Owlz. The Missoula Paddleheads also clinched tonight, setting the focus for the other eight teams in the league on a second-half championship.
