Herron Walks off Chukars; Voyagers Start 4th of July Homestand with Win

Voyagers Win With A Walk Off!
(Great Falls, Mt.) On Monday night, the Great Falls Voyagers (11-24) started a three-game home stand versus the Idaho Falls Chukars (13-25). The Voyagers came into town after three road games in Boise and arrived home at 9 a.m. on game day. The way this game went, an 11-hour drive before the game should be a thing, as the Voyagers got the win on a walk-off double 6-5.
The game started with a run for the Chukars in the 3rd inning and another in the top of the 5th. The Voyagers answered with one of their own in the 5th inning as Derek Kolbush started the inning off with a double, then moved to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt by Jake Malec. Kolbush then came home on a sac fly to left by Charley Hessey.
The Voyagers took the lead in the 6th inning as Matthew Richardson drew a walk to start the inning. Xane Washington followed with a single and was thrown out at second on a fielders choice on a grounder to short by Langston Ginder that scored Richardson. Riley Jepson had a single to right, and Malec hit a ground ball to third that looked like it was the 3rd out as the 3rd baseman touched Jepson. The home plate umpire ruled that the runner from third, Ginder, crossed home plate before the tag was applied to Jepson, giving the Voyagers a 3-2 lead.
This is where things started to drag by slowly as over an hour and a half rain delay occurred. When play resumed, the Chukars showed no signs of being tight as they hit two home runs in the 8th inning to take a 5-3 lead. The Voyagers closed it to 5-4 in the 8th as Jaylyn Williams hit a homer over the left field wall.
Going to the bottom of the 9th trailing, the Voyagers looked to create some early fireworks as Hesse had a single to left to lead off. Hesse moved to third on a single to right by pinch hitter Eddie McCabe. Another pinch hitter, Anthony Herron Jr., came to the plate and, on the second pitch, hit a double to left center to score both runners and get the Voyagers a 6-5 walk-off win!!
The Voyagers will look to keep the fireworks going as they take on the Chukars in game 2 of the series Tuesday night, July 4th, at 7 p.m. Come out and celebrate your nation's birthday with America's pastime, VOYAGER BASEBALL!!
