Four-homer game not enough for Yolo

Four-homer game not enough for Yolo

Oakland, Ca.-- The Oakland Ballers (10-6) used two homers by designated hitter Dondrei Hubbard (6) along with a 15-hit attack as they defeated the Yolo High Wheelers (6-7) 12-8 on Friday night at Raimondi Park.  It's been Hubbard's world in this series. Hubbard has homered four times which doesn't include the two he hit in the knockout round on Thursday.  Hubbard finished with three RBI's.

Every Baller in the starting lineup had at least a hit.  Oakland also had a power contribution from right fielder Austin Davis (2) a solo in the first.

Oakland broke the game open in the sixth, scoring five times.  In addition to the two-run homer by Hubbard, shortstop Myles Jefferson preceded that with a two-run triple.  Davis had an RBI single in that frame.

Not to be lost in all the Ballers offense was the tremendous starting pitching by Oakland starter Christian Cosby (2-1) who struck out 13 in 5 1/3 innings, the most by a Baller this season.  The first six outs he recorded were via a punchout.  Overall, Yolo batters fanned 19 times, the most ever in one game by the High Wheelers.

Yolo stroked four homers:  left fielder Tanner Smith (1) solo in the second, second baseman Kirkland Banks (1) a two-run clout in the fourth, third baseman Braedon Blackford (3) solo in the sixth, and left fielder Jose Gonzalez (3) leading off the eighth.  Blackford has homered in three straight games, and Gonzalez has three in the series.  It was the second four-homer game for Yolo in this set.  Center fielder Kyle Guerra contributed with a two-run eighth inning double.

Yolo starter Shaun Gamelin (0-1) surrendered ten hits over six innings.  He gave up six runs (four earned).

Oakland leads the series 3-1.  The teams meet on Saturday afternoon with a 1:05 first pitch.  Left-hander Brandon Mitchell (0-0) will start for Yolo against Oakland righty Carson Lambert (0-1).

HIGH NOTES
The 12 runs are the most allowed by Yolo this year.  The ten hits allowed by Gamelin are the most given up by a Yolo pitcher this year

Shortstop Bobby Lada was 1-5 with a single.  He's reached base safely in all 13 games this season
