Plenty of positives despite 4-2 series defeat
For the fourth straight game the Idaho Falls Chukars (15-21) had an inning of at least four runs as they used that to their advantage in a 10-8 win on Sunday night at Melaleuca Field. The Chukars took the series four games to two and scored 48 runs in the set.
Yolo shortstop Braylin Marine (4, 5) hit two solo homers. The first of which was in the opening inning, and also had one in the sixth. Marine has hit safely in 19-of-his-last-20 games and has reached base safely in 21 straight contests.
In the second, third baseman Kirkland Banks (4) added to the Yolo lead with a solo clout making it 2-0.
However, Idaho Falls responded with four two-out runs in its half of the second. The big blow was a three-run homer to left by left fielder Jacob Jablonski (5) as that made it 3-2 Chukars. The other run was an RBI double by right fielder Nick Iannatone.
The Chukars added to the lead with a pair of runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. Third baseman Brett Barrera extended his hitting streak to 13 with an RBI double in the sixth. He went 16-25 (.640) in the series.
Yolo made things interesting in the ninth scoring three times—courtesy of three Idaho Falls errors and had a chance to take the lead but pinch hitter Mason Minzey struck out with two aboard. Idaho Falls made 16 errors in the series.
Ben Ferrer (2-2) suffered the loss for Yolo. He went four innings, allowed eight hits and six runs (all earned) while walking three and fanning six.
Caleb Reyes (1-0) was the Idaho Falls starter. In his professional debut he struck out six and earned the win going 6 1/3 innings. Tyler Dyball (1) achieved his first pro save.
Yolo starts a three-game homestand on Tuesday (all games at 10:00 a.m.) against Oakland. Right-hander Cameron Repetti is the scheduled starter for the High Wherlers against Ballers righty Christian Cosby.
