Great Falls Drops Game Two to Hawks
The Boise Hawks needed a victory yesterday to stay in playoff contention, and they came away with a victory, spoiling the watch parties of both the Oakland Ballers and the Yolo High Wheelers, who both would have clinched if Boise lost. The Voyagers have a chance to play spoiler once again to Boise tonight.
Nate Madej and Mike Peterson were the starters for the V's and for the Hawks respectively, who have been two of the best pitchers in the league, especially in the second half. We saw quality starts from both last night.
The Hawks opened the scoring in the second, continuing one of their best series offensively as of late. Nick Ultsch reached base to lead off the inning and stole second, leading to an RBI single by catcher Nick Klemp. Other than that, there was no offense to speak of through the first 5 innings.
Starter Mike Peterson had an incredible beginning to his day for Boise. The third-year pro threw a perfect game through the first 5 innings, and kept his pitch count under 60. He got some more assistance from his offense in the top of the 6th, an RBI double from Noah Marcelo put his team up two, and some good baserunning and a groundout from Tyler Jorgensen made the score 3-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th.
The Voyagers offense came alive in the 6th though, and were able to tie the game up at 3. They strung together four hits in the frame, RBI knocks from Jordan Hamburg, Caden Green, and an RBI sac fly from Oscar Serratos Jr. The game was tied up at 3 after the 6th.
Boise wasted no time getting back on the board, Nick Klemp continued his great night with an RBI double that drove in two runs. Nick Ulstch also had an RBI in the frame, score was 7-3 after the top of the 8th.
The Voyagers were unable to put up any more runs, Peterson goes 6 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 earned runs, and striking out 8. Madej goes 5.1, giving up 3 hits, 3 runs, and 3 walks on 5 strikeouts. Washilewski and Powell relieve innings 6 through 8, Carl Chatham throws his second scoreless inning in a row in the 9th.
Final score of game two was 7-3, catch game 3 tonight at 7 PM, all star Jason Pineda is the starter for the V's.
