Game Recap 6/9/24

Game Recap: 6/9/24

Chase Gearing slammed the door out of the bullpen, allowing the Owlz to down the Jackalopes 11-2 and take the series four games to two.

The biggest swing of the game came early for the Jakes when Julian Boyd connected on his first professional home run, leading off the first inning.

Despite recording 11 hits and four walks, the Jackalopes would only manage one more run, a wild pitch in the third.

Many of those hits came in the first four innings. Chase Gearing came on in the 5th for the Owlz and worked five scoreless innings, allowing just

four hits.

"He threw strikes and kept the ball down," Jackalopes manager Chris Knabenshue said.

Nathan Gilman got his first start of the season for the Jackalopes after coming on after one batter in Tuesday night's contest. The Jackalopes, draft pick from the pre-season tryout camp, was able to work through a couple of bumps in the road early, but those bumps became mountains in the fourth inning. Gilman got the first two outs quickly enough, but then Dario Gomez delivered his league-leading 11th home run of the year, and Gilman never recovered. He surrendered a walk, four hits, and another two runs before getting the third out and hitting the showers.

The Owlz scored three more in the 5th and 6th off Connor Barton, working on short rest after starting on Wednesday.

A bright spot for the Jakes was Dustin Shorie, one of the newest Jackalopes, who delivered three innings of scoreless relief and two strikeouts to finish out the ballgame.

Ultimately, the Owlz claimed their third straight series, winning this six-game set 4-2, and the Jackalopes fell to 4-13, eight games behind NOCO and a playoff berth.

The Jackalopes head back out on the road beginning Tuesday to take on a surging Boise Hawks squad, winners of four in a row pending Sunday afternoon's affair. The series begins Tuesday and can be seen on FloSports.
