Pitching and Timely Hitting Propel Voyagers to Game One Win

Voyagers Come From Behind to Get Game 1 Win

(Great Falls, Mt.) The Great Falls Voyagers (27-43/12-12), trailing by 5.5 games in the second half, took on the 2nd place team in the 2nd half standings, Billings Mustangs (32-41/13-12), on Tuesday night at Voyager Stadium. The Voyagers need to win the series to make a run in the second half of the season and started the series off right with a 5-4 win on Tuesday night.
The Voyagers started the game off well, getting a leadoff walk from the first hitter in the bottom of the 1st inning, Xane Washington. Washington stole second base and came home with two out in the inning on a double to right center by Jaylen Williams. With a 1-0 lead, the Voyagers starting pitcher, Brady Held, pitched very well. Unfortunately, he fell victim to a couple of errors in the field. While he gave up four runs through 6 innings, only two were earned.
Meanwhile, the Voyagers, having given up one in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th, and 1 in the 5th, got one of their own in the bottom of the 5th inning back. With two out, Washington drew his second walk of the game. Gregory Ryan Jr., playing for Colling Runge since the 3rd inning, got a single to left field. He was followed by Riley Jepson, who singled to right field, scoring Washington.
With the Voyagers trailing 4-2 and relief pitcher Tommy Snyder pitching very well in the 7th and 8th inning, the Voyagers took the lead in the 7th inning. Nick Emanuel led the inning off with a single to left and was pinch-run by Langston Ginder. Ginder moved to third on a single to right by Charley Hesse. Washington hit a fly ball to center deep enough to score Ginder from 3rd, making it 4-3. With two out in the inning, Jepson came through with a single to center and moved to second base on the throw to third by the center fielder. The throw was not in time to get Hesse at third, however. Jaylen Williams came through with a big hit to right field and scored Hesse and Jepson to give the Voyagers a 5-4 lead after seven innings.
Andrew Garcia came in for the 9th inning and was able to get the Mustangs in order to get the save and secure the win for the Voyagers! The Voyagers will take on the Mustangs on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for game two of the series. In addition to the schedule, the Voyagers, on Monday, August 21st, at noon, will take on the Glacier Range Riders for a doubleheader. This will be free to anyone who would like to come out and see 14 innings of action on Monday afternoon.
