Maybach Tosses CG in 8-1 Mustang Win Over Chuks

Pat Maybach tosses a gem and the Mustangs defeat the Chukars 8-1.

Maybach's nine innings is the first time a Mustang has had two complete games in a season since Tyler Mahle in 2014, and it also marks the first time the Mustangs have had three complete games in a season since 1997.

With Daniel Silva on the mound for Idaho Falls, a pitching duel ensued through four innings.

Maybach worked out of a jam in the second surrendering a leadoff single to Stephen Cullen and a one out walk to Jordan Myrow. Maybach induced a groundball to the catcher Anthony Frichette for a 5-4-3 inning ending double play.

The Chukars would start the scoring in the fifth with a leadoff single by Frechette and Sam Troyer brought him home with a one-out knock to give Idaho Falls a 1-0 lead.

The Mustangs answered with three runs in the fifth. With Luke Fennelly picking up a lead-off single, and Brady West drawing a nine-pitch walk, Blake Evans brought home Fennelly to tie it at 1.

Mikey Edie laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Evans and West into scoring position, and Taylor Lomack brought West home to give the Mustangs the 2-1 advantage. The Ponies added on with a RBI-single by Connor Denning to make it 3-1.

After ending the fifth with the third inning ending double play of the night on a 4-6-3 groundout by Eduardo Acosta, Maybach sent down eight batters in a row heading into the eighth.

In the sixth, Fennelly piled on a solo homer - his seventh home run of the year.

West singled to follow Fennelly's at-bat, with Blake Evans collecting his third of four hits. With one out, Lomack picked up his second RBI of the night to bring home Evans to make it 5-1. Denning hit another RBI single to make it 6-1. Lomack came around to score on the next at bat by Gabe Wurtz who reached on a fielder's choice and an error by the first baseman to make it 7-1.

The Mustangs added one more in the eighth on a 6-4-3 double play hit by Wurtz which would score Lomack, who led off the frame with a single.

Pat Maybach tosses nine innings giving up 10 hits and two walks with two punchouts. Meanwhile, Daniel Silva receives the loss after tossing five and a third giving up seven runs on 12 hits and two walks with one strikeout.

The Mustangs attempt to pick up, at worst, a series split against the Idaho Falls Chukars Thursday evening. Coverage starts at 6:15 p.m. with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN 910/105.5 KBLG or ESPN910.com. You can also watch every pitch on FloSports.
