Voyagers Lose 6th in a Row

Voyagers 9th Inning Rally Falls Short
(Great Falls, Mt. ) On Tuesday night, the Great Falls Voyagers (8-21) faced a formidable challenge as they faced off against the Northern Division leaders, Missoula Paddleheads (24-7). The Paddleheads, on paper, looked like an easy winner, but the Voyagers are a much better team than their record shows and proved it tonight.
The Voyagers started the game behind starting pitcher Tyler Naumann getting the Paddleheads out in order in the first. The Voyagers struck back in their half of the inning with a single from Riley Jepson, followed by a single from Collin Runge. Jepson was able to score on a single to right field by Jaylyn Williams giving the Voyagers a 1-0 lead after one inning.
Both starting pitchers proved too much for the opposing batters, as nobody could score until the Paddleheads put three up in the 4th inning on a home run and two singles. The Voyagers got one more run in the 5th inning as newcomer Xane Washington hit a 410' homer over the left field wall making it 3-2 after five.
The Paddleheads could put up another 3 in the 6th inning on two home runs and a double and single. The Voyager pitching shut down the Paddleheads for the rest of the game as the bats stayed alive, getting the Voyagers closer and closer to taking the lead.
A solo home run in the 7th inning by Derek Kolbush went 423' over the right field fence, making it a 6-3 Paddlehead lead. With two out in the 8th inning, Jepson drew a walk, followed by a walk from Runge. Jepson was brought home by Williams's single to center, making a two-run game.
With the Voyagers needing at least two runs in the 9th inning to tie, it looked bleak as the first two batters were put out in order. Then a little luck came the Voyager's way as Langston Ginder reached on an error by the second baseman. Washington hit a single to center followed by an RBI single to left by Malec, scoring Washington. The Voyager hopes were high with runners on first and third and Jepson at the plate. A hard hit ball to the first baseman by Jepson ended the game with the Voyagers coming out on the short end of the stick 6-5.
The Voyagers will look to get a win on Wednesday night as they take on the Paddleheads in game two of this three-game series. The first pitch will start at 7 p.m., so come out and enjoy some great Voyager baseball action!!
