Voyagers Get Loss in Game 1 of Final Homestand

(Great Falls, Mt.) The Great Falls Voyagers ( 35-59/21-27) faced off against the Boise Hawks (47-47/19-27) to start the last homestand for the Voyagers of 2023. The Voyagers and Hawks are out of the playoff hunt but put their pride on the line Thursday night.
The Hawks started it against starting pitcher Greg Blackman, scoring two runs. The Voyagers answered, though, as lead-off hitter Xane Washington had a single to left and came home on a single to left by Charley Hesse. Trailing 2-0 until the bottom of the 4th inning, Eddie McCabe tied the score with a solo blast to left field. The home run went 380' and tied the game at two apiece.
That tie lasted under good pitching from Blackman until the 6th inning, when some fielding errors and base hits led to 6 runs for the Hawks. Finding themselves down 8-2 going into the bottom of the 6th inning, the Voyagers got two back as McCabe got a single to right, and with two out, Jaylyn Williams got a single to center. A wild pitch moved both runners up, and they took advantage of that as Billy Hancock brought them both home with a single to center.
Trailing 8-4, the Voyagers added two more runs in the 8th inning as Armstrong reached on an error, Hancock had a single to right, and Armstrong came home on a ground out by Washington to second. Giovanni DiGiacomo pinch ran for Hancock and scored from second on a single by Jevon Mason.
With the Hawks getting an insurance run in the top of the 9th, the Voyagers tried their best but could only get one run in the 9th as Williams came home on a ground out to third by Ryan Peltier.
The Voyagers lost in game one of this three-game series, 9-7, but look to change that around as they take the field Friday night at 7 p.m. The Voyagers and Hawks are finishing the season here at Voyagers Stadium with fireworks planned for after the game on Saturday night. Don't miss your chance to cheer on the Voyagers in 2023!!!
