Vibes Split Doubleheader in Tough Contests

Vibes Split Doubleheader in Tough Contests

By Tyler Petersen

OGDEN, UTAH – The Rocky Mountain Vibes staged two big comebacks against the Ogden Raptors today, but only came away with a split in the doubleheader.

Game 1

The first game actually began yesterday in a matchup between Yohandry Perez and Riley Ottesen. The Vibes got on the board first with a Ulysses Cantu RBI in the first. The Raptors shot back with two solo shots in the second from Matt Warkentin and Logan Williams.

Rocky Mountain took the lead back in the third – scoring a run on a wild pitch and another two on a Luis Navarro double.

Ogden tilted the game back with a three-run double by Brian Dansereau in the bottom of the inning.

Then came the thunder, lighting and rain. It was quite the shower – bath bomb, loofah, and rubber duck included. The game was suspended after three innings complete.

The game resumed earlier today at 4:00 pm and Ogden got right back to work. Two more solo shots and two runs on an error in the fourth off Jorge Leo had the home team up 9-4.

This set up the first comeback of the day.

It started off slowly – a home run in the fifth by Cantu got one back at 9-5.

The next inning it came in full force. Ethan Lopez brought a man in with an RBI single. Then it was the bat of Cantu that knocked out another home run, this time a three-run homer and the game was tied.

It remained tied until the ninth thanks to some good work from the bullpen. Nathan Draves and Pete Bayer threw 2.2 hitless innings, striking out three batters along the way.

In the ninth the Vibes scored three times – one in on an RBI groundout by Domonique Hernandez and two on a single by Cesar Lopez.

Miguel Pozo locked down his sixth save of the season in a dominant ninth.

Game 2

30 minutes later the two teams would do it all again. Well a seven-inning ballgame anyway.

The teams were once again back-and-forth through the early innings. The Vibes were up 2-1 in the second, then the Raptors were up 6-2 in the fourth.

This set up the second comeback of the day.

In the sixth, the Vibes were able to get two men in scoring position against an otherwise stingy Sidney Duprey. Wilmer Torres came out of the Ogden bullpen and threw in a run on a wild pitch. After a popout, he threw in another run on a wild pitch. Then, with a man on third and two outs, Josh Glenn hit a two-run home run to tie the game.

The Raptors got two runs in the bottom of the inning though. Seth Davis nearly escaped a bases loaded jam when Dansereau hit a two-out two-run single.

Jackson Lancaster came out of the Ogden bullpen and struck out all three that he faced.
