Voyagers Open Home Stand With W
The Great Falls Voyagers were victorious in the first of their final 12 games here at home before their 2024 regular season comes to an end, final score of the game was 9-6.
Jack Lynch opened the scoring for Great Falls in the bottom of the first with a 2 RBI single through right field. Jason Pineda got his 8th starting nod of the season last night, and he continued a streak of solid starts in the past few weeks. Other than a three-run second inning, the 2024 PBL All star went scoreless through 7 innings of work, giving up 6 hits, the three runs were all earned.
Although Great Falls' batters were playing really well, Missoula was also struggling to make plays when they needed to yesterday. The Paddleheads gave up 3 unearned runs between the 2nd and 5th innings, the last coming right after an RBI single from third baseman Devin Hurdle.
The Voyagers were up 6-3 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning. Against most teams, this lead would be somewhat comfortable, but against the Paddleheads, this lead is anything but safe. Freddy Rojas Jr. added some significant insurance in the form of a three run home run to far left field. This doubled the Voyagers lead, and would prove to be a very valuable at-bat.
The Voyagers offense was humming in tune last night, as everybody found a way to contribute. Every batter got a base hit except for Ryan Major, who reached base safely on a walk, rounded the bases to score a run, and tallied an RBI with a sac fly. They also scored runs in 5 of the 8 innings of offense they played.
The Paddleheads gave their best effort to mount a comeback in the top of the 9th. They quickly put up three runs to start the inning, with only one away. Reliever Zach Voelker came in with two on, one out, in a three-run game with Josh Elvir at the plate. All it took was one pitch from Voelker, as he forced a ground-ball over to first. Freddy Rojas Jr. stepped on first and threw over to second, where Caden Green completed the tag, and the Voyagers picked up the W. Final score was 9-6.
