Smiling Skinner Stars in Yolo Onslaught
Oakland, Ca.---Yolo High Wheelers (7-7) center fielder Brayland Skinner (1, 2) led a five-homer attack with two round-trippers and seven RBI's out of the lead off role as the visitors defeated the Oakland Ballers (10-7) 11-6 on Saturday afternoon at Raimondi Park. The seven RBI's are the most by a High Wheeler this season. All of his RBI's were from the fifth through ninth innings.
The High Wheelers have homered 16 times in this series. They got the parade started with the second batter of the game with shortstop Braylin Marine (1) which made it 1-0. Yolo added two more homers in the second as with one out, left fielder Tanner Smith (2) homered to left and immediately after him it was second baseman Kirkland Banks (2). It was the second time in the series where the High Wheelers went back-to-back that made it 3-0.
It was 5-3 Oakland going to the fifth when Skinner hit the first of his two homers--a two-run clout which tied it. It was tied at five and in the seventh when Yolo struck for three runs. The High Wheelers loaded the bases with nobody out and Skinner got what turned out to be the game-deciding hit on a two-run single to right. He broke the game wide open when he belted a three-run homer in the ninth.
"I felt good at the plate," said Skinner. "The big moments late in the game Billy (manager Billy Horton) was giving me fake signs to keep me loose." Skinner added he thought his RBI total was four and was surprised he had seven.
