Hamby Sends Down 13 to Start as Riders Blank Boise
Flathead Valley, MT. – The Glacier Range Riders (31-45, 14-15 second half) ripped off their fourth straight win Saturday night, defeating the Boise Hawks (23-54, 6-23 second half) by a score of 4-0 at Flathead Field. Starting pitcher Rob Hamby sent down the first thirteen Hawks without allowing a baserunner, marking a franchise record for the deepest a Range Rider pitcher has taken a perfect game. From there, Hamby finished out six innings with just one hit against him and the bullpen threw three zeroes on the board for Glacier's fourth ever shutout as a team.
The scoring started in the bottom of the third when a Ryan Cole walk, and a Brandt Broussard ground-rule double put runners on second and third with one out for Eddie McCabe. McCabe routinely plopped a ball to deep left field in order to get Cole home on a sacrifice fly. The biggest inning for Glacier came in the bottom of the sixth when the Riders found a two-out rally. First, Drew Sims double off the wall in left field and was later brought home by an RBI single from Mason Dinesen. After Dinesen stole second, David Kyriacou lined a hot shot into center that just couldn't be corralled by the Boise fielder and allowed Dinesen to score and make it 3-0. The offense was rounded out in the bottom of the eighth when Will Mangurian scored on a double play.
Hamby turned over the mound to Isaiah Henry after the sixth where Henry got out of jam, stranding a runner on third after a line out to Ryan Cole in left. In the eighth, Drew Holweger battled the rain (and a slippery ball) to get out of a jam that had a runner on second with two outs using a strikeout and a 4-3 groundout to keep the goose egg on the scoreboard. Justin Coleman continued his sizzling pitching performances with two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
With the series win already wrapped up, Glacier will just look for the win tomorrow in order to give themselves the longest winning streak in franchise history. They tied the current mark with their fourth straight win tonight. First pitch is slated for 1:05 PM at Flathead Field.
