Late Homer Propels Jackalopes

Davis, Ca. ---- Grand Junction (2-7) center fielder Lavoisier Fisher (2) swatted a two-run homer to right field with two out in the top of the eighth inning leading the Jackalopes to a 7-6 win over the Yolo High Wheelers (4-3) on Friday afternoon at Dobbins Stadium.  The round tripper capped what had been a 5-0 deficit.

 
Yolo struck for five runs in the first sending up 11 batters.  Shortstop Braylin Marine led off with a walk (he walked again in the inning) and then scored when the next hitter--shortstop Bobby Lada hit a double.  Third baseman Sam Kuchinski came through with a two-run single, second baseman Kirkland Banks had an RBI on a force play, and center fielder Kyle Guerra capped the scoring with a single.
 
The High Wheelers added another run in the third on a Lada single.  In this series, Lada is 7-16 with ten RBI's and a Grand Slam.
 
Shaun Gamelin made his professional debut in a starting role.  The High Wheelers righty gave up four runs (all earned) in five innings.  He issued four hits, walked and struck out three.  Noah Estrella (0-1) suffered the loss allowing the two-runs in the eighth.
 
The winning pitcher was Grand Junction's Eric Martinez (1-0) and the save went to Hunter Bryan (2) who worked 1 1/3 innings.  The High Wheelers managed just two runners after the third.  The Jackalopes bullpen worked five hitless and shutout innings allowing a walk and two strikeouts.
 
The teams meet again at 4:30 on Saturday afternoon in Davis.  Right-hander Elijah Johnson (0-1) will make the start for Grand Junction against Yolo righty Brandon McPherson (0-0).
 
HIGH NOTES
Kuchinsnki and Lada have reached base safely in all seven games
 
Gonzalez reached base safely twice in first two plate appearances stretching that mark to seven straight but was retired three times after. The High Wheelers are hoping for redemption when they meet again on Saturday to gain a greater advantage on the series and go to 4-1.
