Voyagers Win First Series of 2023!

Voyagers Celebrate Father's Day With A Win!!

(Great Falls, Mt. ) The Great Falls Voyagers (7-15) looked to celebrate Father's Day with a series-clinching win over the Billings Mustangs (9-15) on Sunday morning. The Voyagers did not send the dads home sad as they came away with the 8-4 win to win the series 2-1.
The Mustangs jumped out early with one run in the top of the first inning, but the Voyagers wasted no time answering as they scored three in the bottom of the first. Jake Malec started things off with a walk, and it is often the case the lead-off walk came around to score. Malec moved to third on a single by Jepson and came home on a ground out by Ryan McCarthy. Jepson scored on a single to center by Collin Runge. Runge would finish off the scoring in the first on a single by Derek Kolbush.
Mustangs hitters were able to cut the lead to 3-2 after scoring one in the 3rd inning. Voyagers right fielder, Kolbush drew a walk to start off the 4th and moved to second on a single from Cal Bocchino. A pair of wild pitches by the Mustangs pitcher, Trevor Jackson, allowed Kolbush to score from second, giving the home team a 4-2 lead after 4.
Two runs by the Voyagers in the 5th on a double by Jepson and a double by McCarthy, who then scored on an error and a wild pitch to make it a 6-3 Voyagers lead after five. The Mustangs were able to cut it to 6-4 with a run in the 7th, but the Voyagers put it out of reach in the 8th inning.
Derek Kolbush started the inning off with a walk, and Charley Hessey came in to pinch run for Kolbush. With Jaylyn Williams coming to the plate, he wasted no time in taking the first pitch over the center field wall. A tremendous blast of 440' gave Hessey the easiest pinch run of his life and gave the Voyagers an 8-4 lead. Montana Quigly came in to shut down the Mustang hitters 1,2, 3 in the top of the 9th and secure the win and the series for the Voyagers.
The Voyagers celebrated Father's Day with the win and sent the 1242 fans home smiling. The Voyagers will have a day off and then travel to take on the Glacier Range Riders before coming home on the 27th to face off in a 3-game series versus the Missoula Paddleheads.
