Mustangs Lose 23-7

Mustangs Lose 23-7

A 24 batter bottom of the sixth for the Voyagers and the Mustangs fall 23-7 and drop four of the six games in Great Falls.

The 16 runs in the sixth are the most given up in an entire game, let alone an inning for the Mustangs this season. The 11 walks also surpassed the season high of 10 walks in a game given up earlier this season to Missoula on May 25th.

The Mustangs used three different pitchers, and a position player to get through it.

Jalen Evans started the inning giving up eight runs, all earned, on six hits and two walks with a strikeout to give him a third of an inning worked.

Tyler Statler and Johnathan Tyler combined to give up seven walks with seven runs, all earned, without recording an out. The Mustangs opted for Gabe Wurtz to deliver two outs, and he came through while giving up one run earned with two walks and a hit batter.

The Mustangs previous season high for total runs in a game was 15. They gave up 16 total in the bottom of the sixth.

Previously, the Mustangs trailed only by a score of 5-1.

The Voyagers picked up a run in the first on a  RBI double by Jaylyn Williams.

They added on in the third with a leadoff double by Nick Emmanuel. Riley Jepson skied a ball to center, but Mustang center-fielder Brendan Ryan could not complete the out allowing Emmanuel to score. Williams collected another hit to score Jepson and the Voyagers led 3-0.

Brady West, who just turned 25 years old on July 29th, hit a two-out opposite-way home run to pull the Mustangs within two runs, a score of 3-1. The Voyagers answered with a two-run home run by Langston Ginder to make it 5-1.

Otherwise, Mustang starting right-hander McLain Harris had a nice day. He tossed a season-high five innings giving up five runs, three earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts.

The big inning happened for the Voyagers, and the Mustangs didn't go quietly.

Billings picked up six runs in the seventh. Luke Fennelly led it off with a single, Bryce Donovan singled, Bobby Vath hit Emmanuel Sanchez with a pitch, while Brendan Ryan hit Fennelly home. Taylor Lomack sacrificde himself for Bryce Donovan to score, and Connor Denning hit a two-RBI triple to score Ryan and Sanchez. Gabe Wurtz followed with a two-run home run and the Mustangs trailed by 21-7.

Donovan tossed two innings giving up two runs to make it 23-7.

The Voyagers added on in the eighth for two more in the bottom of the seventh, and the rest of the hitters went down quietly for a final score of 23-7.

The Mustangs welcome the Glacier Range Riders to town for a three-game home series starting Tuesday evening. Coverage starts each evening at 6:15 with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN 910/105.5 FM or ESPN 910.com. You can also watch every pitch on FloSports.
